Learn how induction cook-tops work and their benefits. Once you try it, we think you’ll love it!
There are many benefits to using induction stoves, besides increased energy efficiency.
- Exceptional control. – Unlike electric stoves of the past, induction produces heat directly into the pan, leading to unparalleled precision, control, and response that rivals gas stoves!
- Safety. – Cooking with induction is one of the safest ways to cook! You are no longer exposed to a red-hot stovetop surface (or coil), or an open flame. Plus, induction cooktops won’t produce heat unless there’s cookware on the surface and many models come with auto-off settings that turns off the stove when you remove the cookware. No more wondering whether you left the stove on.
- Clean. – Besides being easy to physically clean (just a swipe of the surface), switching to induction cooktop means cooking on clean, renewable electricity! You also eliminate a major source of air pollution in your home, leading to cleaner, healthier air for you and your family.
This is a short intro which shows you the controls, but doesn’t explain stuff like the fact that you have to use certain types of metal pots to operate the stove properly.
We have amazing news for you! You know you can borrow a induction cooktop from the SLO County Library! For details visit https://my.nicheacademy.com/countyofslopubliclibrariesmakerkits/course/8464
We found this page to be very helpful in explaining stuff. It’s a little dated. She describes the installment requirements for a 4 burner cooktop. Be aware that the 1 burner cooktops use a regular cord and are portable. (We hope the information for the library is updated soon.)
Sun ovens harness the natural power of the sun to cook or bake unbelievably the most delicious food while being prepared for an emergency, reducing energy costs and benefiting the environment around the world.
Once you try a sun oven, you will love it! The author of this educational series just bought one. Unlike bbqs, you can’t burn your food, put carcinogens in your food and increase the likelihood of starting a fire.
Another great benefit besides no emissions or energy production costs is that in the summer you will keep heat sources outside of your home, which increases your cost to maintain a comfortable temperature.
